The blue sweater, once your definition of warm; Lost a button,
Now lies at the bottom of a shelf, forgotten
The earring that framed your face just right
Misplaced a pearl, as you danced away that crazy night
The trusted shoe that saved you from many falls
It’s sole is beginning to wear, like crumbling old walls
The suitcase you dragged on Europe’s cobbled streets
Now its wheels are old and rough, roll with noisy beats
The pan that you picked to cook ‘Meri wali Maggi’ at midnight
Lies unused as the handle wobbles with a screw that’s not as tight
They're all whispering softly, can you hear?
"Give me a second chance, I can still bring you cheer”
You could of course replace them with something brand new
But would it have the charm of memories that only time can brew
A stitch, a joint, a fix - give these old friends some tender love and care
And bring back the world, where not an exception, but the rule was repair
It’s International Repair Day today. And a good reminder to bring back what seems to have become the lost art of repairing.
